Jimmy brock - Lead Pastor

Jimmy and Suzanne Brock both grew up in Virginia, but have circled the country together, living and serving churches in California, St. Louis, and Atlanta.

Jimmy graduated from Covenant Theological Seminary in 2012 and was ordained in the PCA in 2013. After five years as Pastor of Family Ministry at Church of the Redeemer in Atlanta, he and Suzanne (and their five sons) followed God’s call to Virginia Beach in November 2017 to begin the Princess Anne Mission that would become Resurrection Community Church. Before becoming a pastor, he taught high school math in Los Angeles, and he continues to teach and tutor GMAT prep for aspiring MBA students.

Jimmy is passionate to connect people of all ages and different walks of life with God and with one another. He also loves games and sports, food and drink, and pretty much every part of God’s good created world. As he pastors Resurrection Community, he also serves on the denominational children’s ministry team and is the circuit director for the Tidewater SB2W camps. Contact Jimmy

Alejandro Romero- Director of Outreach and Discipleship

Alejandro grew up in church and has been serving in various ministries after graduating high school. He graduated from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in October 2021 and has served with youth groups, organized discipleship ministries, led mission trips, developed outreach initiatives, and run the soundboard.

Coming from sunny Southern California, Alejandro transferred from his community college to study biblical studies at Azusa Pacific University. Upon graduating in 2017, Alejandro shortly began a pastoral internship in Barstow, CA before moving to the North Shore of Boston for seminary. While there, he was commissioned as an officer in the Army Reserves as a chaplain candidate in December 2019. Alejandro is passionate to reach both civilians and soldiers for Christ, to partner alongside those already in their faith journey and to help them grow deeper in the faith. He is devoted to showing God’s mission and letting everyone know without partiality what a loving and relational God we have who is crazy for us. He is thrilled to become a part of the community of Resurrection Community Church and the military community in Virginia Beach.

Alejandro is also a coffee and sports enthusiast (go Dodgers!) who in his free time enjoys being active by playing tennis, working out, and going out for hikes. Contact Alejandro

Philip Sitterding-Worship Leader

Philip grew up in Virginia Beach. As a teenager, he played on the worship team at his parents' church under his dad's leadership. He went to college at Liberty University, where he met his wife Molly and (somehow) persuaded her to stay in Virginia with him instead of going back to Hawaii.
Jimmy did their wedding and asked Philip to fill in temporarily as the worship leader at Resurrection Community. Three years later, Philip is still leading worship (though no longer temporarily).
Philip and Molly have two children and enjoy eating food, being outside, and playing tabletop games.
Philip believes that singing to and about God is an essential part of developing the life of faith. He wants Resurrection Community to sing theologically robust songs from a variety of different genres that teach truth, give comfort, and bring joy.

Morgan Griffin - Communications Associate

Morgan grew up in church and has been part of Resurrection Community from the very beginning, along with her husband and three children. In fact, they became the very first members of Resurrection, before it even had the name! As a military wife, Morgan understands the challenges many families have with connecting and finding their church community and actively seeks to bridge that gap through her work at Resurrection. As the Communications Associate, Morgan facilitates and develops online and social media content.

Morgan’s hobbies include working out and drinking lots of coffee to keep up with her three rambunctious children that have proven a lot harder to raise than she imagined.

Oversight commission

In our tradition, every local church is overseen by a group of elders who provide spiritual leadership and collective accountability for the church. Normally, these elders are elected by the congregation. As a new church, we have a group of elders from other churches in our region (Presbytery) who have been chosen to fill this role. These elders are also committed to their own local churches, so they do not regularly worship with us, but they meet together with Pastor Jimmy, approve significant decisions, receive new members into the church, and are available to talk with any members who want to talk with them. Use the contact form to get in touch with them.

Ministry leadership team

The work of the church is certainly not done only by the ordained (pastor and elders) leadership. All the people of the church community work together to carry out the mission to connect people with God and one another. Practically, this works out by joining together into ministry teams, such as children, youth, music, prayer, setup, hospitality, communications, neighborhood Bible studies, and neighborhood engagement. Each of these teams has responsibility for a particular area in the life of the church, and the leaders of those teams meet together as the Ministry Leadership Team to coordinate with one another and move forward in a unified way. If you’re interested in serving on one of those teams or want to contact one of the leaders, get in touch!
